Introduction to Beacon Commitments

As we keep sight of our 2025 Sustainability Commitments, we are focused on six key areas, which we call our beacon commitments, that contribute to improving lives, supporting our communities and safeguarding the environment. Explore these 6 beacon commitments with us.

Deploying 50% Energy-Efficient Coolers in Customer Outlets

According to our 2017 figures, our refrigeration equipment, such as in store coolers, account for almost 40% of our carbon emissions.

As we try to reduce these emissions across our value chain (including in customer outlets), we are introducing a new generation of ‘iCOOLers’, which use refrigerants with zero global-warming potential, and are 57% more energy-efficient.

Sourcing 100% of electricity from clean and renewable energy (in EU & CH)

With two-thirds of the world’s electricity consumed by commercial and industrial companies, switching to renewable and clean energy is critical to speeding up the transition to a low-carbon economy.

This is a key component of our “Mission Sustainability 2025”. You can find out more about what we are doing to shift to clean and renewable energy here:

Helping secure water availability for all communities in water risk areas

Water is crucial to our business and a key component of our beverages, but we are also aware that some of our bottling plants operate in areas of water scarcity.

Together with other stakeholders in those watersheds, we want to make sure that these communities retain safe, good-quality and accessible water. You can find out what we are doing to support local communities here:

Help to collect the equivalent of 75% of primary packaging

We are working to tackle the challenge of packaging waste, but we know more needs to be done. We want to ensure that every bottle or can that we put into the market has more than one life, that we use more recycled materials for new bottles and we partner to help collect bottles once they are used.

We previously set a target to collect 40% of our packaging materials for recycling by 2020. By 2018, we had achieved 45%. But we want to achieve more! Therefore, we have set a new target - to help collect the equivalent of 75% of our primary  packaging materials by 2025– as well as improving the recycled content of our bottles and making them 100% recyclable.

Ensuring 50% of manager positions are held by women

Gender equality is a key aspect of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and studies have shown that gender-balanced teams working in inclusive environments are more productive, innovate more and achieve better results.

With 36% of our Management roles currently held by women, we have  set a target to raise this to 50% by 2025. Here’s how:
