Coca‑Cola HBC's Our Charity programme supports initiatives to raise funds for dedicated charity partners around the year, with the final amount raised by employees matched by the company.

The island of Ireland’s fundraising efforts reached new heights in 2016 with an unprecedented amount of money raised for our charity partners.

Employees across the business showed remarkable dedicated and selflessness in their efforts to raise much needed funds for Simon Community and MacMillan Cancer Support. These charities were appointed as new partners for the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland businesses respectively in early 2016 following a vote by employees.

With more than 7,000 people currently experiencing homelessness in Ireland, there was overwhelming support from employees for the partnership with Simon Community; an organisation that works with people across the country who are at risk or experiencing homelessness.

Similarly, MacMillan Cancer Support is a service close to many hearts across Northern Ireland for the work they do in providing practical, emotional and financial support to families affected by cancer. Our employees relished the opportunity to support this worthy cause.

Headed by Our Charity coordinator Sarah Smith with the support of an Our Charity committee, an array of fundraising events were planned throughout the year. More than 350 employees took part in initiatives which included an ‘Island of Ireland European Football Tournament’, pub quizzes, bake sales, Supply Chain’s annual ‘Big Night Out’, and funds were also raised by individuals who ran marathons and other activities throughout the year.

We were truly touched by the level generosity our employees showed to the charities throughout the year, both in terms of the time and money they donated to help make all the fundraising initiatives a success. The Our Charity Committee worked tirelessly year round to create fun and inspirational activities that would engage and excite our employees, it’s just fantastic to see the results in the money raised. Contributions from employees alone raised €21,000, and this sum was matched by the company, with an impressive €42,000 shared evenly between both charities.

At a cheque presentation to the charity partners at Christmas, the Senior Management Team also took the time to pay tribute to those who went above and beyond to help raise the funds.

Regional Sales Manager Paul McDonnell and Cormac Garvey, Demand Planning Manager who were instrumental in the successful football tournament were also presented with a gift, along with Persida Mocan, Personal Assistant who worked tirelessly to raise funds and engage employees in a wide range of events throughout the year.

Supply chain was also recognised in the celebration for their functional ‘Big Night Out’ which was leveraged to raise charity funds, with key team members Lisa Battisti, Connor Quigley and Paul Gorman celebrated for their individual fundraising efforts.

Both charities expressed their gratitude for the work of the team and wider business.

Joanne Young from MacMillan Cancer Support Northern Ireland said, “We cannot thank Coca‑Cola HBC Ireland and Northern Ireland enough for the hard work this year.  The employees have exceeded all expectations and it is credit to Coca‑Cola HBC Ireland and Northern Ireland, and the Our Charity committee for being such a driving force.”
