Coca-Cola HBC Ireland and Northern Ireland, together with social enterprise, FoodCloud, gathered at Tesco’s Liffey Valley Superstore in Dublin to celebrate the return of the ‘Win a Meal, Give a Meal’ campaign for its third consecutive year.
Customers can join the initiative by simply free texting “DONATE” to 50400 before 31st December. Each entry gives participants a chance to win one of ten €500 Tesco Gift Cards, while directly contributing a meal to FoodCloud’s network, thanks to Coca-Cola HBC’s commitment to donate €1 for every text received.
In 2023, the initiative led to the donation of the equivalent of 70,000 meals, which FoodCloud distributed to communities in need across Ireland, moving closer to their vision of a world where no food goes to waste. This year, the campaign aims to match that figure, calling on the participation and engagement of customers to help make an even greater difference.
Coca-Cola HBC has established a strong partnership with FoodCloud in the Republic of Ireland, contributing financial resources, product donations, and volunteer support. Coca-Cola HBC is committed to investing and supporting the delivery of FoodCloud’s Food Sourcing Strategy, which takes a holistic approach to reducing food waste across the island of Ireland with the aim of reducing 5,100 tonnes per year by 2025.
Over the past four years, Coca-Cola HBC has donated over €125,000, providing the equivalent to 385,000 meals to FoodCloud, further cementing its dedication to fighting food waste, reducing carbon emissions and advancing its journey toward NetZero.
Tom Burke, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Director at Coca-Cola HBC Ireland and Northern Ireland, said: “We are so grateful to Tesco Ireland for their continued support of our ‘Win a Meal, Give a Meal’ initiative. Last year, we were blown away by the participation of Tesco shoppers whose engagement helped donate the equivalent of 70,000 meals to communities in Ireland. We’re setting our sights even higher this year, aiming to boost donations and make a greater impact. As part of Coca-Cola HBC’s commitment to achieve NetZero by 2040, we are acutely aware that reducing food waste is an integral part of environmental sustainability and supporting a more circular economy. This is why we are thrilled to work with Tesco and FoodCloud’s Food Sourcing Strategy through this initiative to reduce food waste and support those facing food insecurity”.
Sheena Ford, Partnerships Director of FoodCloud, stated: “Building on last year’s incredible success, FoodCloud is proud to partner once again with Coca-Cola HBC and Tesco Ireland on this initiative. This partnership is grounded in shared values and a strong commitment to reducing food waste while providing meals to those who need them most. Each year, this campaign helps raise public awareness about FoodCloud’s essential work to create sustainable communities.
Sam Watkins, Category Director, Tesco Ireland noted: “This year marks eleven years of our Tesco partnership with FoodCloud which has changed the conversation around instore food surplus at a retail level. Together we’ve saved the equivalent of over 20 million meals from going to waste, supporting hundreds of charitable organisations across Ireland. We are delighted to support Coca-Cola HBC on the annual ‘Win a Meal, Give a Meal’ campaign.”
